YouTube Monetization Requirements
Recently. YouTube changed its monetization requirements in a way that makes it more achievable!
How Much Do YouTubers Get Paid?
Every YouTuber gets paid differently.
Unlike past myths that claimed you get paid $1 per 1,000 views, YouTube pays you based on how much advertisers pay them to place ADs in front of your viewers.
How much advertisers are willing to pay for AD placement depends on the niche you’re in and if your content is considered “advertiser-friendly”.
For example, if you make content about finance, you’re likelier to earn more income from YouTube than someone who posts content about cooking because wealthy people are willing to invest more into advertising on YouTube.
An important metric to understand when viewing the analytics of your earned income on YouTube is “CPC”. This metric stands for “Cost Per Click” which shows you exactly how much you’re earning when a viewer watches or clicks on an AD during your video.
No matter what niche you’re in, the CPC and other metrics fluctuate per video so it’s important to not get too caught up in the numbers.
It’s also important to note that YouTube doesn’t necessarily pay you, YouTubers get paid through Google AdSense. This is why you’ll see your earned monthly revenue on the YouTube dashboard, but not on your google AdSense dashboard.
How To See Your Earnings
In order to see how much you’re getting paid and if you’ve reached the $100 Google AdSense payment threshold, you’ll need to click on the YouTube earnings section of your Google AdSense account.
You can also view your estimated monthly YouTube earnings directly from the YouTube studio dashboard.
To know how much money a specific video is earning on your channel, simply go to the analytics section of any video and then view your revenue. This shows as “RPM” on your dashboard when you filter the data.
Should You Have A Niche?
If you want to know how to earn money from YouTube views, understand that your success starts with the way you approach creating content.
Make videos about topics that you wouldn’t mind talking about for hours, then you will eventually build an audience that shares the same passion as you.
A great example of this would be my fashion channel, HeHeels. I started this channel because I’ve always had a passion for high heels that took me a while to get comfortable with sharing.
I knew that If I had this passion, there has to be other guys who are similar to me. Because I had the mindset of reaching based on passion rather than just money, I was able to get HeHeels approved for monetization in a little over a year, despite the new YouTube partner program requirements.
In a nutshell, make content that you love and the money will soon follow…I promise.
Make Money With Affiliates
Google AdSense isn’t the only way to make money on YouTube. In fact, a lot of YouTubers make more money from promoting affiliate products than they do from AdSense revenue!
Affiliate marketing makes earning money from YouTube without being approved for monetization possible for small channels.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is when you promote a company’s product and make a commission from the earned sales.
How Do I Get Started?
Becoming an affiliate marketer is super easy! I recommend using ShareASale because they offer some of the highest paying affiliate programs.
Once you sign up for Share-A-Sale’s affiliate network, all you’ll have to do is login to your dashboard, find an affiliate program to sign up for in the mearchant center, and then place your affiliate link to that item in the description box of your next video(don’t forget to let your viewers know the link’s there)!
As you get accustomed to promoting affiliate products on your YouTube channel, you’ll understand how your audience reacts to certain items.
Knowing what your audience will want to buy is essential to earning money with affiliate marketing.
I love affiliate networks because they offer a wide range of different brands to work with at varying commission rates.
Product reviews are a popular way to earn affiliate income because people want to know how something performs before they purchase. As an affiliate marketer, you’re basically the “middle-man” that’s helping the potential customer make an informed decision.
Sponsorships
Sponsorships are one of the best ways to make money on YouTube because you get paid to promote a company that you believe in.
The more subscribers you have, the likelier you are to have sponsors consider offering you a deal. The best tip that I have for you when it comes to earning sponsorships is to make yourself available.
By making yourself available, I mean to place your email address in your description box and promote yourself to potential sponsors.
Remember that at the end of the day, you are your best advocate. If you don’t believe that your content is worthy of sponsorship, then you won’t attract sponsors.
Superchats & Premiums
YouTube offers viewers the option to send “super chats” to their favorite YouTubers during Live shows.
Super Chats are a way to basically tip a content creator.
Super Chats are a great way to earn extra income because going live on YouTube is easy and you’d be surprised at how many people are willing to donate to you.
You typically won’t see earnings from your superchats in the YouTube dashboard. This may have changed by the time you read this blog post, but superchat earnings usually show up in the “unpaid earnings” section of your Google AdSense account.
Premium Members
Recently, YouTube introduced the “Join” feature that allows creators to charge for exclusive content.
This is similar to Patreon, but slightly different since your subscribers won’t have to leave YouTube for your premium content.
Charging your subscribers for premium videos is a great way to earn extra money without having to use ADs.
Setup Your Store
Selling merchandise is a lucrative way to monetize the audience you’ve worked so hard to grow.
Setting up a store is another way for your fans to support your business.
YouTube also allows for merch integration so that viewers can see what you offer directly under your videos!
You can learn more about merch integration here.
